The Cabinet has approved a proposal to construct a new indoor stadium in Jaffna to strengthen indoor sports and improve sports infrastructure in the Northern Province.
The project, submitted by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, carries an estimated cost of Rs. 170 million.
The facility aims to support the growth of sports such as table tennis, tennis, badminton, netball, and chess, with a special focus on schools and local sports clubs.
Officials say the initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize sporting and recreational facilities in the region and provide better opportunities for youth engagement.
