The Attorney General has informed the Colombo High Court that an appeal will be lodged against the recent ruling which found that charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) could not be maintained against alleged underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka Wickramaratne, widely known as ‘Harak Kata’, and four other suspects accused of conspiring to escape while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The matter was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala, where counsel representing the Attorney General formally notified the court of the decision to challenge the judgment.
The court also heard the suspects’ bail application, with Judge Ragala announcing that a decision on the application will be delivered on 20 August.
Following the withdrawal of the PTA charges, the court further ordered that Harak Kata, who is currently being held on remand at Tangalle Old Prison, be transferred to an appropriate prison facility.
