The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued landslide warnings for several areas across the Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts, with the alerts remaining in force from 9.00 a.m. today (3 August) until 9.00 a.m. tomorrow (4 August).
A Level 3 (Red) ‘Evacuate’ warning has been issued for the Pasbage Korale and Ganga Ihala Korale Divisional Secretariat divisions in Kandy District, where residents have been advised to leave at-risk areas immediately if instructed by authorities.
A Level 2 (Amber) ‘Be Alert’ warning has been declared for Ududumbara and Udapalatha in Kandy District; Yatiyantota and Aranayake in Kegalle District; Ambagamuwa, Norwood, Nuwara Eliya, Kotmale East and Kotmale West in Nuwara Eliya District; as well as Opanayake, Imbulpe and Ratnapura in Ratnapura District.
Meanwhile, a Level 1 (Yellow) ‘Be Aware’ warning has been issued for Panvila and Medadumbara in Kandy District, Deraniyagala and Dehiowita in Kegalle District, and Nivithigala and Kuruwita in Ratnapura District.
The NBRO has urged residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant, closely monitor weather conditions and follow the instructions issued by local authorities, particularly in areas experiencing prolonged heavy rainfall.
