The Court of Appeal today continued hearing the writ petition filed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, seeking an order to prevent his arrest in connection with investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
The petition is being heard before a two-judge bench comprising President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya, and Justice Sarath Dissanayake.
During today’s proceedings, President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva continued presenting submissions on behalf of the petitioner, Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Deputy Solicitor General Suharshi Herath appeared on behalf of the respondents.
The respondents named in the petition include the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekera, CID Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Madhava Gunawardena, and the Attorney General.
The petition seeks judicial relief to prevent the former President’s arrest in relation to the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
