Sri Lanka has reported 48,287 dengue cases so far this year, with 757 new infections recorded within the past 24 hours, according to the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
The NDCU also confirmed that the dengue-related death toll has risen to 29.
In response to the increasing number of cases, the National Dengue Control Unit has launched a three-day special mosquito control programme starting today. The initiative will focus on 112 high-risk Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions where dengue transmission is spreading rapidly.
The programme aims to intensify mosquito control measures and reduce the spread of the disease in vulnerable areas across the country.
Meanwhile, the NDCU has identified mosquito breeding sites in 268 schools nationwide. According to NDCU Entomologist Sakunthala Janaki, 67 of these schools are located in the Western Province.
She also revealed that more than 228,000 premises across the island have been inspected so far this year as part of the country’s ongoing dengue prevention and vector control efforts.
