An Anuradhapura Special High Court judge has sentenced a man to 32 years of rigorous imprisonment following his conviction for the rape of a 15-year-old girl.
Alongside the prison sentence, the court ordered the offender to pay Rs. 500,000 in compensation to the victim, as well as an additional fine of Rs. 70,000.
The verdict concludes a trial that was initiated after the Attorney General filed indictments against the accused. The charges stem from an incident that took place in July 2016 in the Thambuttegama area.
