A suspect has been arrested with a large consignment of narcotics during a raid conducted by the Police Special Task Force (STF) at a house in Thalawathugoda.
Police said the suspect had been operating the drug trafficking network of Dewage Thusitha Chamara, alias “Wanathe Kudu Thilan”, an alleged organised crime figure and large-scale drug trafficker currently residing overseas.
The 32-year-old suspect had allegedly been coordinating the distribution of drug consignments linked to Wanathe Kudu Thilan to various parts of the country.
During the raid, STF officers recovered five kilograms and 290 grams of crystal methamphetamine (ICE) and two kilograms and 946 grams of heroin from the suspect’s possession.
The STF said the suspect had been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
Further investigations are underway to identify other members of the network and trace the sources of the drug trafficking operation.
