Alto Dharme’s Sister Arrested Over Suspected Rs. 70 Million Money Laundering

In a separate development, the Illegal Assets Investigation Division has arrested the sister of alleged organised crime figure Alto Dharme over suspicions linked to the circulation of more than Rs. 70 million in suspected drug-related funds.

The arrest follows an investigation conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, focusing on financial transactions allegedly connected to organised crime and narcotics activities.

Police said investigations were initiated into five suspects, including an alleged organised crime gang member and a drug trafficker, under money laundering legislation.

During the inquiry, investigators uncovered information concerning four bank accounts maintained by Alto Dharme’s sister at two private banks in the Piliyandala area. More than Rs. 70 million had reportedly passed through these accounts, raising suspicions regarding the origin and nature of the funds.

The 49-year-old suspect, a resident of Madapatha, was taken into custody and is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
