The Election Commission has identified the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) as a political party facing an internal dispute.

The Commission said several factions of the party were summoned before it today (6) and questioned regarding the ongoing dispute.

Among those present were Dayasiri Jayasekara, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Duminda Dissanayake.

According to the Election Commission, a political party facing an internal dispute cannot submit nominations for an upcoming election unless the matter is resolved.

When a party experiencing an internal conflict seeks to submit nominations, its representatives are required to appear before the Commission and reach an agreement on resolving the dispute.

The Commission further stated that if the dispute cannot be settled, the party could lose the opportunity to submit nominations for the relevant election.

The Election Commission confirmed that the same procedure will be followed in the case of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party moving forward.
