The progress of the ‘Clean Colombo’ programme, implemented under the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, was reviewed at a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (09), chaired by Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The programme focuses on improving Colombo’s urban environment through the rehabilitation of sewerage networks and drainage canals, environmental beautification, and improvements to waste management.
During the meeting, officials discussed ongoing projects and action plans being implemented by the relevant institutions and reviewed the progress achieved so far.
The Colombo Municipal Council, Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation, Urban Development Authority, Road Development Authority, Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management, and Sri Lanka Railways are the key institutions involved in implementing the programme.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of integrating other Clean Sri Lanka initiatives being carried out across the country, where relevant, into the Clean Colombo programme.
These initiatives aim to promote social well-being, environmental sustainability and an ethical revival by encouraging positive changes in public behaviour.
