The Cabinet of Ministers has approved recommendations to provide compensation and other assistance to prison officers who were killed or injured while on duty during clashes at a prison on July 5 and 6, 2026.

The decision follows a report submitted by a committee headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration. The committee was appointed by Cabinet on August 3 to make recommendations on compensation and assistance for affected officers.

Under the approved recommendations, special compensation payments will be provided in addition to payments available under Public Administration Circular No. 22/936.

Officers killed in the line of duty will receive Rs. 5 million each, while officers who become fully disabled will also receive Rs. 5 million each.

Officers who suffer partial disabilities resulting in a 100% loss of earning capacity will receive Rs. 4 million, while those who sustain temporary partial disabilities will be eligible for Rs. 3 million.

The Cabinet has also approved measures to strengthen the Prison Tactical Force, including amendments to the Prisons Ordinance to provide the force with legal status.

Other measures include recruiting additional qualified personnel, providing specialised training and necessary equipment, and taking steps to establish a headquarters for the Prison Tactical Force.

The measures are aimed at supporting affected prison officers while strengthening the operational capacity and preparedness of the Prison Tactical Force.
