Several locations, including the residence and office of former Minister Douglas Devananda, have been subjected to special searches by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Police said the searches were carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into allegedly unlicensed firearms linked to the former Minister.

According to Police, the searches are connected to investigations into firearms that had reportedly been in Devananda’s possession.

Investigators noted that among several firearms issued to Devananda by the Sri Lanka Army in 2001 was a pistol that was later discovered near a culvert in the Weliweriya area in 2019.

Police said the weapon was recovered following information provided by organised crime figure Makandure Madush.
