Shiranthi Rajapaksa to Undergo Eye Examination Today

Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, is scheduled to undergo an eye examination at the Colombo Eye Hospital today.

Prisons Spokesperson Senaka Pallethanna said arrangements had been made to take her to the hospital for the examination.

According to the spokesperson, Rajapaksa is currently in good health and is being cared for in the medical ward of the women’s detention division.

Meanwhile, Acting Commissioner General of Prisons Prasad Hemantha said several samples, including blood samples required for medical tests, were collected from Rajapaksa yesterday.

She was arrested on October 7 over allegations that she obtained Rs. 10 million from a state-owned bank and committed offences under the Public Property Act and corruption laws through the alleged misuse of the funds.

Rajapaksa was subsequently produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded until October 13.
