The Department of Meteorology says showery weather is expected to intensify across Sri Lanka from this evening (20) due to the development of an atmospheric disturbance in the lower atmosphere near the island.
Showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the country after 1.00 p.m. today.
Heavy rainfall of around 100 mm is likely at some locations in the Northern, North Central, Central, Eastern, North Western and Uva provinces.
Morning showers may also occur in the Northern and North Western provinces, the Meteorology Department said.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise possible damage from temporary, localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions are also expected in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning hours.
