The Court of Appeal has issued a writ order against the Gampola Divisional Secretary, prohibiting any unauthorized interference with Sri Lanka’s first cable car project being constructed in the Ambuluwawa area.
Delivering the ruling yesterday (07), Justice Gihan Kulatunga also ordered the Divisional Secretary to pay Rs. 100,000 in legal costs to the petitioner, Amber Adventure (Pvt) Ltd—the company responsible for implementing the project.
Amber Adventure told the court that the project had received all required approvals from relevant state institutions. However, despite this, the Divisional Secretary had allegedly obstructed the continuation of the work.
President’s Counsel Ali Sabry, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that the project site falls fully within the jurisdiction of the Urban Development Authority (UDA), and therefore the Divisional Secretary has no legal authority to intervene or halt operations.
The court was informed that the alleged interference had delayed the construction timeline, prompting the company to seek judicial intervention to prevent further disruption.
