Sri Lanka Police stated that the accident occurred this morning (19) when a cement mixer truck collided with several vehicles and pedestrians travelling along the road.
Police suspect that the driver of the truck transporting cement lost control of the vehicle, leading to the collisions.
Around eight vehicles, including three-wheelers, lorries, and motorcycles, were reportedly damaged in the accident. Several pedestrians were also hit by the vehicle during the collision.
According to police, the four fatalities includes one woman and three men.
The eight injured individuals have been admitted to Akurana Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
The accident has also caused severe traffic congestion in the surrounding area, said police.
Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
