Colombo, November 14 — The Second Reading of the 2026 Government Budget was passed in Parliament today with a majority of 118 votes.
A total of 160 MPs voted in favor, while 42 voted against the budget proposal. Another 8 members abstained from voting.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake presented the 2026 Budget to Parliament on November 7, following which six days were allocated for the Second Reading debate.
The Committee Stage debate is scheduled to begin tomorrow (November 15) and will continue for 17 days, concluding on December 5.
The final vote on the Third Reading of the Budget is set to take place on December 5 at 6:00 PM.
