Sri Lanka has recorded more than 100,000 dengue cases so far this year, with 100,127 cases reported as of September 27, according to the latest data from the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
A total of 4,637 cases were reported during September up to September 27, compared with 10,155 cases in August and 29,964 cases in July.
Gampaha District has recorded the highest number of cases at 21,234, accounting for 21.21% of the national total. Colombo follows with 19,634 cases (19.61%), while Kandy has reported 7,624 cases (7.61%).
Kalutara recorded 6,365 cases, Matara 6,284 and Galle 5,465 cases.
The Western Province accounts for more than half of the country’s total dengue cases, with 52,562 cases, or 52.50% of the national figure.
The Southern Province has recorded 14,388 cases (14.37%), followed by the Central Province with 9,498 cases (9.49%) and Sabaragamuwa Province with 8,268 cases (8.26%).
According to the NDCU data, 77 dengue-related deaths have also been reported so far this year.
