Hotel De Plaza in Colpetty has released an official statement addressing a viral video circulating on social media that shows its staff involved in a physical altercation with a group of customers. The hotel says the footage is incomplete and does not accurately depict how the incident unfolded.

According to management, the clash occurred on the evening of 22 November 2025, when a group attempted to place an order while the restaurant was already at full capacity. Staff informed them of a waiting time of approximately 30 minutes and noted that no tables were available. The same group reportedly returned several times and was given the same information.

Hotel De Plaza states that during their third return, members of the group unexpectedly assaulted staff, injuring four employees. One worker sustained a head injury, while another suffered fractured fingers. Two staff members have been discharged, and two remain under treatment at the General Hospital.

The hotel emphasizes that the viral video only shows staff responding to the attack, not the moments leading up to it. Management maintains that employees acted in self-defence after being physically assaulted.

The statement also cautions the public against sharing partial footage that could fuel unnecessary racial or communal tension. The hotel reaffirmed its cooperation with law enforcement and stressed that safeguarding staff and guests is its highest priority.

Hotel De Plaza described the incident as “unfortunate” and reiterated its commitment to managing such situations with professionalism.

Police investigations into the altercation are currently ongoing.
