Train operations on the upcountry main railway line remain heavily disrupted following a landslide and a train derailment near the Ihalakotte railway station, both caused by the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
According to railway authorities, multiple landslides have occurred between the Balana and Ihalakotte railway stations and at two additional locations along the line.
As a result, 18 train services were canceled today. Furthermore, four morning train services scheduled for tomorrow (21) from Kandy and Matale to Colombo Fort and Beliatta have also been called off:
- 04:30 a.m. – Kandy to Colombo Fort
- 04:50 a.m. – Matale to Colombo Fort
- 05:00 a.m. – Kandy to Beliatta
- 06:15 a.m. – Kandy to Colombo Fort
Railway officials said restoration work is underway, but operations will remain limited until the tracks are cleared and safety inspections are completed.
