Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer Namal Rajapaksa announced that all candidates seeking nominations from the party will be required to submit a police clearance report to confirm they have no ties to organized crime or drug trafficking.

Speaking to reporters following a meeting with the SLPP youth group, MP Rajapaksa said the new measure aims to ensure the integrity and credibility of party representatives ahead of upcoming elections.

“We have all kinds of people in the party, but what’s important is that a new generation has rallied around us, united by a shared vision and policy framework,” Rajapaksa said.

He further noted that the party is preparing for possible provincial council elections in the near future. “As a party, we will take decisions on how to contest these elections and select candidates. This time, submitting a police report will be mandatory to confirm that nominees have no involvement in criminal or drug-related activities,” he emphasized.
