The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) announced that the five suspects arrested off the coast of Galle with over 53 kilograms of heroin will be produced in court today, with detention orders expected to be obtained.

According to police, the suspects were handed over to the PNB by the Sri Lanka Navy, which intercepted a multi-day fishing vessel in southern waters on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The Navy escorted the vessel to the Galle Port, where a joint inspection with PNB officials uncovered 53 kilograms and 134 grams of heroin concealed on board.

Authorities said further investigations are underway to determine the source and intended destination of the narcotics.
