Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama has ordered the further remand of Neville Wanniarachchi, former Security Chief to ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa, until October 31, in connection with an ongoing investigation into illicit asset accumulation.
Wanniarachchi was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on suspicion of unlawfully amassing assets valued at Rs. 28 million.
During today’s court proceedings, CIABOC’s Assistant Director of Legal Affairs, Sulochana Hettiarachchi, presented a detailed progress report and informed the court that new information had surfaced regarding additional properties allegedly linked to the suspect.
Considering the new findings and the ongoing investigation, the Magistrate ordered that Wanniarachchi remain in remand custody until October 31.
