Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Kavinda Jayawardana has conveyed his appreciation to US President Donald Trump for his stance on protecting persecuted Christian communities in Nigeria.
In a letter addressed to President Trump, MP Jayawardana praised what he described as the US President’s decisive action in drawing attention to violence, killings, and attacks targeting Catholics and other Christian groups in Nigeria, noting that it reflected strong moral leadership at the global level.
He stated that by taking a firm stand against extremist elements responsible for such acts, President Trump had given hope to affected communities and amplified the voices of those living under constant threat. Speaking as a representative of the Catholic community in Sri Lanka, Jayawardana said he was deeply moved by the US administration’s efforts to highlight these issues internationally and to seek lasting solutions.
The MP added that President Trump’s vision of a world where people of all races, ethnicities, and religions can coexist peacefully aligns closely with Sri Lanka’s own values, particularly given the country’s experience with the consequences of religious and ethnic conflict.
