Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe arrived at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court a short while ago in connection with a case filed under the Public Property Act.
The case alleges that public funds were misused during Wickremesinghe’s presidency to finance a trip to London, undertaken to attend the graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe.
Former President Wickremesinghe previously appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on August 22, 2025, to record a statement regarding the matter. He was subsequently arrested, produced before court, and remanded until August 26, 2025.
After considering medical reports submitted to court, Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura ordered his release on three personal sureties of Rs. 5 million each. The case was then adjourned to October 29, 2025.
At the hearing held on October 29, the Magistrate directed the police to conclude the relevant investigations by today, January 28, 2026.
