Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, said she is ready to step down from office whenever the people of Sri Lanka decide that a change is needed.

Speaking after her return to the island this morning (23) following her participation in the 2026 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, the Prime Minister made the remarks upon arriving at Parliament to take part in the ongoing debate.

Addressing the House, Dr. Amarasuriya said the Opposition had first attempted to remove the President and later turned its focus toward the Prime Minister, but had failed in both efforts.

“I came back this morning fully prepared to face a no-confidence motion. I am still waiting for it. Why hasn’t it been brought? We were ready,” she told Parliament.

She added that a no-confidence motion was unnecessary, emphasizing that her position ultimately rests with the will of the people.

“When the people of this country decide that the Prime Minister must change, we are ready to go home. We are accountable to the people, and we will continue to work in line with that responsibility,” she said.
