Former Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and former Chairman of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), Anusha Palpita, has been remanded until February 6 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The order was issued by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodharagama after considering submissions made by officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and counsel appearing for the suspect.

Palpita was arrested and produced before court today in connection with an investigation launched by the Bribery Commission over the alleged failure to disclose the source of assets valued at approximately Rs. 46 million.

According to CIABOC, Palpita arrived at the Bribery Commission this morning (23) to provide a statement and was taken into custody following the recording of his initial testimony.

The Commission stated that the arrest relates to allegations of accumulating assets and property disproportionate to his lawful income during a specified period, following investigations into wealth acquired beyond his declared earnings.
