The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched an investigation into multiple security breaches targeting the official website of the Ministry of Public Security.

The inquiry follows a complaint filed by the Ministry’s Secretary, retired Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne, who reported that the website had been compromised by external parties on several occasions.

Police noted that irregularities were also detected in the display of the State Emblem on the ministry’s website, raising further concerns over the breach.

Authorities confirmed that although the site was accessed unlawfully multiple times, it has since been restored. The recovery process was carried out jointly by the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (SLCERT) and the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka.

In addition to the CID probe, an internal investigation at the ministerial level has also been initiated to assess the incident and strengthen cybersecurity measures.
