Disciplinary Action Taken Against Nearly 500 Police Officers Over Drug Offences: IGP

Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya has revealed that disciplinary action has been taken against nearly 500 police officers in connection with drug-related offences.

He further noted that several officers have also been dismissed from service due to their direct involvement in drug-related criminal activities.

The IGP made these remarks while addressing a passing-out ceremony of newly recruited police officers held at the Sri Lanka Police College in Anuradhapura.

Speaking at the same event, Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala stated that the current government has introduced a range of measures aimed at eliminating underworld operations, organized crime, and narcotics from the country.

Both the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs and the Inspector General of Police congratulated the newly commissioned officers, stressing the importance of professionalism, discipline, integrity, and commitment in building a successful and honorable career in the police service.
