Two Killed in Separate Road Accidents; Large Cannabis Haul Recovered in Hambegamuwa

Two fatal road accidents reported from Pulmoddai and Echchalampattu have claimed the lives of two individuals, police said.

In Pulmoddai, a 64-year-old resident of Kolongolla died after losing control of his motorcycle, which veered off the road and plunged into a canal in the Mahasenpura area.

In a separate incident in Echchalampattu, a 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed near the Punniyadi Kovil after his motorcycle collided with a tractor. Police stated that the rider was traveling at high speed, lost control of the vehicle, and overturned before crashing into the tractor.

Meanwhile, police have recorded a major breakthrough in an anti-narcotics operation in the Hambegamuwa area. A 47-year-old resident of Hambegamuwa was arrested inside the Kukulkatuwa Reserve in possession of a large stock of illegal narcotics.

During the operation, officers seized 121 kilograms and 500 grams of cannabis. The suspect is currently in police custody, and further investigations are being conducted by the Hambegamuwa Police.
