Red Alert Issued as Landslide Evacuation Orders Enforced in Multiple Districts

A Level Three Red Alert Landslide Evacuation Warning has been issued for several high-risk areas as continuous heavy rainfall heightens the threat of slope failures.

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) announced that residents in the following Divisional Secretariat Divisions must evacuate immediately:

  • Haguranketha – Nuwara Eliya District
  • Walapane – Nuwara Eliya District
  • Ududumbara – Kandy District

NBRO urged all residents living in identified landslide-prone zones to follow evacuation instructions without delay.

Meanwhile, landslide warnings remain active in 12 districts, with Level One and Level Two alerts still in effect.

Level Two Alerts Have Been Issued For:

  • Badulla
  • Galle
  • Kandy
  • Kegalle
  • Matara
  • Ratnapura

Level One Alerts Are In Effect For Areas Within:

  • Colombo
  • Badulla
  • Kalutara
  • Kandy
  • Kegalle
  • Kurunegala
  • Matale
  • Matara
  • Nuwara Eliya
  • Ratnapura

The Department of Meteorology warns of very heavy rainfall exceeding 150 mm across the Eastern, Central and Uva Provinces and the Polonnaruwa District today. Other regions may experience showers above 100 mm, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides.

Authorities advise the public to remain alert, avoid unstable slopes, and monitor updates from disaster management officials.
