Jaffna District MP Archchuna Ramanathan told Parliament today (21) that Puttalam District MP Faisal had issued a death threat against him during a confrontation inside the parliamentary complex.

Raising the matter under Standing Order 27(2), MP Archchuna said he had questioned Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa about the development of the Puttalam Hospital when MP Faisal allegedly became agitated.

According to Archchuna, MP Faisal later approached him near the MPs’ dining hall and said:
“If you continue to play games, I will kill you. Don’t come to Puttalam.”

He said the incident occurred in the presence of several MPs from the NPP, adding that CCTV footage from the area could verify the exchange. He urged Parliament to conduct an immediate investigation.

Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne initially ruled that the issue did not fall under a procedural matter. However, following strong objections from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and several opposition MPs, the Speaker allowed Archchuna to present the allegation formally.

The Speaker then instructed MP Archchuna to submit the complaint in writing for further action.
