Train services along the Up-Country railway line were disrupted after a landslide blocked the track between Idalgashinna and Ohiya railway stations late last night.
Teams from the Badulla District Disaster Management Centre and Sri Lanka Railways have been deployed to clear the debris and restore the affected section of the track. According to railway officials, a mound of earth had collapsed onto the line, halting the movement of several trains scheduled along the route.
Despite the disruption, the Department of Railways confirmed that the Calypso Tourist Train operating between Badulla–Demodara and Bandarawela will run as scheduled today. In addition, the Udarata Manike and Podi Manike services will operate from Nanu Oya to Colombo.
Providing an update in Parliament, Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development Bimal Rathnayake said that restoration work is underway and the affected section is expected to be fully cleared and operational by tomorrow night.
