The Thambuttegama Magistrate, Gayathri Hettiarachchi, has ordered that the school principal arrested in connection with a large heroin bust in Eppawala be further remanded until November 26.

The court also directed that the seized narcotics be sent to the Government Analyst’s Department and that the analytical report be submitted to court.

The suspect, who served as the principal of a primary school within the Thambuttegama Education Zone, was apprehended on November 5 while in possession of over one kilogram of heroin.

Another suspect, arrested in the same operation with 69 grams of heroin, was also ordered to remain in remand custody until November 26.

Both individuals were previously detained under a seven-day detention order issued by the Anuradhapura Crimes Investigation Division for interrogation.

Investigations have also revealed that the principal’s wife had formerly served as a member of the Peliyagoda Urban Council, representing the National People’s Power (NPP).
