The Sri Lankan government has appointed a committee to strengthen the country’s copyright law, aiming to align it with international legal standards.
The newly established committee includes representatives from the fields of intellectual property, law, and other relevant ministries, and will operate under the Intellectual Property Act.
A discussion on the initiative was held at the Ministry of Trade, chaired by Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe.
The committee’s primary focus will be to review ongoing challenges in the music industry and recommend fair and practical reforms to address copyright-related issues and protect creators’ rights.
