Authorities have disclosed that three Sri Lankan nationals, recently deported from India for their alleged involvement in organized crime, had fled the country by boat.
According to police reports, the suspects initially escaped aboard a Sri Lankan vessel before transferring mid-sea to an Indian fishing boat en route to India.
The trio was arrested yesterday at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake upon their return to Sri Lanka.
The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) confirmed that the suspects are being detained and questioned under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
Police further stated that the men are believed to have links to recent weapons discoveries in Vavuniya and Kiribathgoda, suggesting possible ties to a wider criminal network.
