President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (30) unveiled the “A Nation United” National Mission to eradicate the drug menace from Sri Lanka, during a ceremony held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
Addressing the gathering, the President described the drug trade as a grave national threat, warning that it endangers school children and youth and fuels the rise in serious crimes across the country. He stressed the urgent need for a unified national effort to eliminate drugs and safeguard future generations.
“We will build a broad public movement to eliminate the drug threat from our country and protect our society,” the President affirmed.
The President also issued a stern warning to individuals involved in drug trafficking and related crimes, urging them to withdraw immediately.
The “A Nation United” initiative will be carried out through a comprehensive, multi-sectoral strategy, encompassing law enforcement, rehabilitation, prevention, public awareness, religion, sports, art, and culture.
Inviting citizens to join hands in this national effort, President Dissanayake called on all individuals, institutions, and communities to actively participate in building a drug-free Sri Lanka.
