The Fort Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to January 28, 2026, in connection with an alleged misappropriation of Rs. 16.6 million in public funds.
The case, filed under the Public Property Act, was taken up today (29) before Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara.
Wickremesinghe was arrested on August 23 when he appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide a statement regarding the alleged misuse of government funds on September 22 and 23, 2023, during his tenure as President.
When the case was previously recalled on August 26, President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne, appearing for Wickremesinghe, submitted a bail application citing his medical condition.
After reviewing the submission, the Magistrate granted bail, recognizing the former President’s health concerns as a special circumstance.
