A van driver who led police on a reckless chase through Ratmalana, ignoring repeated orders to stop and colliding with multiple vehicles, has been remanded until November 3 following his appearance before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.
Police stated that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest. A search of the vehicle uncovered four cannabis-mixed items and a small sharp weapon, which were taken into police custody.
The van has been sent for forensic examination by government analysts.
According to police, the high-speed chase caused damage to four vehicles—including three motorcycles and a car—before the suspect was apprehended.
Authorities also confirmed that the individual is wanted in connection with several other criminal offenses, and further investigations are underway.
