Sri Lanka and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch 33 development projects in the Eastern Province under India’s Multi-Sectoral Grants Programme.

According to the agreement signed on April 5, 2025, India will provide a grant of Rs. 2,371.83 million to fund projects aimed at addressing key development priorities in the region.

Each initiative will be formalized through a separate MoU between the Indian High Commission and the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the proposal by the Minister of Public Administration to proceed with the signing of all 33 individual agreements.

This programme is part of India’s ongoing development assistance to Sri Lanka, focusing on infrastructure improvement, livelihood support, and community welfare across the Eastern Province — one of the key regions targeted for post-conflict regional development and cooperation.
