Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Lasantha Wickramasekara, widely known as Midigama Lasa, has died after being shot this morning (22) at the Pradeshiya Sabha premises.
Police said two unidentified gunmen arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
Wickramasekara was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries but later succumbed.
He was elected Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) in the recent local government elections.
