The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has collected more than Rs. 25 million in fines over the past six months from vendors found guilty of selling bottled drinking water at inflated prices.
According to the CAA, the raids—conducted between April 1 and September 30—resulted in 306 cases, with the majority reported from the Colombo District.
Officials said the crackdown aims to protect consumers from unfair pricing practices, and similar operations will continue in the coming months.
In one notable case, a popular Colombo-based bakery chain was fined Rs. 600,000 after being caught selling bottled water at a price Rs. 20 higher than the approved rate.
