Police have recovered 50 rounds of T-56 ammunition following information provided by ‘Gampaha Baba’, an organized crime suspect recently arrested in Nepal and brought back to Sri Lanka.
The discovery was made during an interrogation conducted by the Kelaniya Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau. The suspect was transferred to the Peliyagoda Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau yesterday (18) for further questioning.
Based on intelligence gathered during the interrogation, officers located the cache of live ammunition hidden near a pillar at the Kandana–Kerawalapitiya Expressway entrance.
Police stated that the recovered bullets will be produced before the Welisara Magistrate’s Court.
Investigations have also revealed that the ammunition had allegedly been supplied to ‘Gampaha Baba’ by the notorious underworld leader ‘Kehelbaddara Padme’.
