PM Harini Amarasuriya Reaffirms Sri Lanka’s Commitment to China’s Belt and Road Initiative in Talks with Premier Li Qiang

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya met with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on the sidelines of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women 2025, where both leaders held bilateral discussions aimed at deepening cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Amarasuriya conveyed Sri Lanka’s appreciation to the Government of China for its invitation to the summit and the warm hospitality extended to the Sri Lankan delegation.

She underscored that the engagement provided an important platform to enhance bilateral collaboration in trade, investment, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Dr. Amarasuriya also updated Premier Li on Sri Lanka’s progress in debt restructuring with the Official Creditors’ Committee, while expressing gratitude for China’s ongoing support in the nation’s economic recovery efforts.

Recognizing China’s continued role as a key development partner, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s strong commitment to ongoing and upcoming projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). She noted that these projects play a vital role in advancing national and regional connectivity as well as socio-economic growth.
