The U.S. Embassy in Colombo, along with U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung, announced that their official social media platforms will see limited updates during the ongoing federal government shutdown in Washington. Only urgent safety and security information will be posted.

Despite the funding lapse, the Embassy clarified that passport and visa services in the United States—as well as at embassies and consulates worldwide—will continue “as circumstances permit.”

The public has been advised to check travel.state.gov for the most up-to-date information on consular services and operational changes.

This development comes as the U.S. federal government entered its first shutdown in six years, following a congressional impasse over budget approvals.
