Final Rites Held for Monks Killed in Na Uyana Senasana Cable Car Tragedy

COLOMBO – The final rites of four monks who lost their lives in the Na Uyana Aranya Senasana accident were performed today (17) at 1 p.m. at the Pansiyagama public cemetery.

The late Ven. Malwanegama Samiddhi Thero, Ven. Nawalapitiye Uttarananda Thero, Ven. Nugegoda Vipassi Thero, and Ven. Udawalawa Santasumana Thero were laid to rest following the tragic incident in which a cable car collapsed on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, the monastery administration confirmed that the final rites of Ven. Dhammarakkhita Thero of Russia will also be held in Sri Lanka.

The remains of Ven. Dhammagavesi Thero of India and Ven. Dhamma-Rangsi Thero of Romania will be repatriated to their respective countries.

Two monks injured in the tragedy and admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital were discharged after treatment, while four others remain under medical care.
