Three Public Officials Nabbed in Bribery Commission Raids

The Bribery Commission has arrested a Rural Development Officer, an Office Assistant, and a female Security Officer in two separate operations conducted yesterday (25).

In the first raid, a Rural Development Officer from the Deniyaya Rural Development Centre was arrested around 11.20 am at the office premises following a complaint by a local resident. The officer allegedly demanded Rs. 25,000 to issue an inspection letter and expedite related procedures.

During the second raid, an Office Assistant attached to the Driver’s License Printing Section of the Werahera Motor Traffic Department was arrested around 1.50 pm. He is accused of soliciting Rs. 11,000, later reduced to Rs. 10,000, to fast-track a driver’s license.

Meanwhile, a female Security Officer of the Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Medicine Corporation in Maharagama was also taken into custody over bribery charges.

The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Morawaka Magistrate’s Court and the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
