(LKPost.LK): Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama on Tuesday (23) ordered the release of former Moratuwa Mayor Saman Lal Fernando on bail, following his arrest by the Bribery Commission over allegations of financial misconduct.
Fernando was granted bail on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 along with three personal sureties of Rs. 1 million each.
He had been remanded after being produced in court by the Bribery Commission earlier this month.
The charges are linked to irregular payments under the Moratuwa Municipal Council’s Urban and Rural Road Development Project. Authorities allege Fernando approved payments for 112 contracts in violation of financial regulations, causing losses to the state while providing undue benefits to associates.
